In the last few months my photography has improved a lot and I seem to be going places now. On my path I began meeting so many interesting, successful, beautiful and amazing people which made me want to somehow document all these faces. I admit, there are less nerv racking things than walking up to someone like Scott Schuman or Russell James in order to ask for a picture but it's always so worth it (and it turns out most people you ask are really, really nice). First of all I wanted to use this post to say THANK YOU! Thank you for always supporting me and commenting underneath posts! I really do appreciate all your kindness, even when I don't reply to every single comment... I wish I had the time to do it! But just know, I read all of them and they warm my heart!

Last night we made it to 150.000 pageviews, which is quite a big number taking into account that I haven't really blogged a lot lately. I will do so in the near future however! I want to shoot much more, I really want to get better so that in the pictures I take you can see the beauty and colours I create in my mind.

I've been featured in the Swedish Fashion Magazine "Sofis Mode" (copy above) which I also want to thank Annika for! Since I can't speak Swedish, I still need to ask for an English translation though...

Short update: I am currently in Cape Town, South Africa. My internet connection here is really slow so I'm just posting a quick iphone snap from the trip we did today. The images from my camera would take way too long to upload. However I'm taking a lot of pictures, so I will definitely do a few posts as soon as I get back!

We rented a car two days ago and now we're driving around a lot, enjoying freedom, the sun, the warm winds and the beautiful landscape. People here are so warmhearted and friendly, most of the time they're having a big smile on their face.

While I am working on some interesting projects right now I wanted to share some memories with you showing you pictures which I took in the course of the last few weeks...

I already posted some photos of Jen last week but since these have a different style I just wanted to include them in this post. We had a great day hanging out, taking some pictures and planning things for the future.

This is a guy I met last week. He just came up to me and asked me why I was carrying around a camera and if I was a paparazzi. I explained to him that I'm not and we talked for a minute or two. All in all he seemed a bit crazy. And yes, that's a rat on his right shoulder.

I guess a lot of you guys already know Andy from her blog Stylescrapbook. I met her at the Mango/Glamour Party in Berlin about two weeks ago... After I took her picture we hung out and I ended up being in some kind of a Mango/Andy film commenting on her looks. I don't know if it's ever going to be published (let's hope not haha). Funny night though!

As most of you have probably noticed there have been some major changes on the blog - layoutwise as well as contentwise. I want to show more (fashion) photography and reduce the number of outfit posts. I think the world is overflooded with fashion blogs and tipps how to wear what anyway... so making some changes seemed right to me.

Of course I know that a lot of people have found my blog through lookbook, so I hope I won't disappoint you guys and you will continue coming here. As I said, I will just reduce outfit posts, not leave them out completely. I'm just not the biggest fan of seeing my own face on here all the time.

For those of you missing my streetstyle posts, you can now find them on Styleclicker. The blog has a new concept now which means that there are a couple of authors instead of just one. I talked to Gunnar a while ago and he wanted me to be part of the fantastic team, which I am really thankful for.

I met this guy in front of the supermarket today. I got there and he told me he liked my bike. He once had one like this, too. It’s a really nice matt black racing bicycle I bought when I first came to Berlin. In his right hand he was holding a “Straßenfeger”, a paper homeless people are selling in the city to earn some money. I gave him two euro and went inside to buy some iced tea.

When I left the supermarket again he came back to me and said that he had switched off my bike’s light. I just forgot to do it. When things like this happen you usually find a stranger, speaking to you like this, kind of weird. But he was very nice and talked to me with such kindness. He told me he didn’t want me to get into any trouble if my light’s batteries were empty because I didn’t turn it off.

Then he said that he needed just one more euro to have enough money to take the bus to a place where homeless people can get a free meal. I gave him one euro and since we had to go into the same direction I took my bike and accompanied him for a few meters. He seemed rather young and I asked him how old he was. He was 22. Only two years older than me.

When we started talking he told me that both his parents died in a car accident and now he doesn’t have any money left, no place to live, no place to go. He is outside in the cold most of the days. When he’s lucky he can sleep inside one day of the week. He didn’t even own a jacket. He said he was cold. Especially his hands were very cold. The only thing he was wearing was this hoodie. Just to make this clear, I was wearing two jackets one above the other and I was still freezing.

We watched 10 minutes of a football match on a television in a display window of some store and kept talking. He seemed like he was really enjoying the company which is probably why he looks rather happy on the picture he allowed me to take. Then he took the bus and I started my way back home. At the next corner there were two pretty girls chatting. When I passed them one of the girls was complaining about how her dad wasn’t buying her an iPhone 4 and then it really hit me. It’s not like I haven’t seen or met any poor people in my life before. I was in Sao Paolo, Brazil, once, teaching children of an orphanage to play football. They had less than nothing really. But this guy was so close, so tangible. He was the same age, he lived in the same city, with a little less luck he could be you.

And it’s not like I have never complained about any of the little things in my life. I really don’t want to sound like some moralizer here but this guy and the conversation with him just made me realize how we are often moaning about this and that - things which aren’t of any great importance compared to the things happening to other people in this world every day. I use the word “we” because everyone who is reading this does at least own a computer.

I think it’s good to take a step back sometimes in order to reflect on your situation and how lucky you are, even if you aren’t happy all the time. The next time you are cold and can’t wait to get somewhere warm just think about the people who have no place warm to go.

Appreciate what you have, be open minded and be kind to others.

About 2 weeks ago I bought a couple of single-use cameras at some drugstore. I didn't really know what I wanted to do with them but I thought they would be great for some fun pictures... Since they're really small you can easily take them anywhere not always having to think about the heavy dlsr you're carrying around. So basically what I did was capturing 24 hours of my life. I took the camera everyhwere I went and did some snapshots. It started of clubbing in Berlin, waking up at 6am, going to the airport and a lovely day in Munich - just to give you an overview. I'm going to do the drawing of the lottery later today, so tomorrow or the day after I will announce the winner of the glasses!

Sorry for not posting the last couple of days but right now some friends and I are intensively working on a film projekt interviewing different people on the street for it. So here we are: the lottery some of you have probably waited for. This time the give away isn't sponsored or anything, I'm raffling off a personal piece. You have the chance to win the sunglasses I'm wearing in the upper photo. In the picture below you can have a more detailed view on them. They're from the Vintage Sunglasses Selection of American Apparel and therefore a very unique accessory. Of course winter is coming up and you won't be in the desperate need of a pair of sunglasses, but anyway... I think they're pretty cool! (p.s. of course girls can wear them, too)

Today I went to the Peter Lindbergh Exhibition “Peter Lindbergh - On Street Photographs and Films.″ which is taking place at C/O Museum in Berlin at the moment. Almost all photographs on display are black and white pictures which were taken between 1980 and today. I found that the most interesting pieces of the exhibition were some of Lindbergh‘s iconic portraits like the one of Kate Moss. Further you could watch some video documentaries that were giving an insight into his working methods, his thoughts and his biography.

"Creativity is the basis of self-expression. Why are some people supposedly more creative than others, and why can't others open themselves up enough to be able to express who they are? Creation is the birth of something, and something cannot come from nothing. When someone creates something: a painting, a poem, a photograph, the creativity comes from an idea, from a feeling, from emotion, or from a combination of ideas, feelings and emotions that are somehow 'reborn' from all our experiences and perspectives. (...)

Some people are drawn to create and express themselves, others are drawn to reflect, to analyze. But in the end, they all could be creative if they had the desire to explore the way in which they are integrated in the world of their experiences. Because creativity is really a rebirth, a true tone we feel for ourselves and for our world. Then our work becomes a real part of who we are.
